About Beanpole Software

Beanpole Software was founded, informally, in mid 1993, when friends and co-workers Sue Allman and Paul O'Reilly were hanging out in Sue's garden on a Sunday with a bunch of friends. "You know," Paul is quoted as saying, pointing at the bean vines growing on poles along the side of the garden, "that looks just like a network."

His suggestion was initially met with giggles and suggestions that perhaps he should go inside and lie down (and to this day Paul denies ever sayig it at all), but the statement planted the seed (so to speak) for the idea that would eventually turn into our glorious company.

Beanpole was officially founded in late 1993 by Ms Allman as COO and Mr. O'Reilly as CTO with the help of Tom Furmitz (CEO), whose brother knew how to fill out the paperwork. With an initial operating budget of $153.34, the three knew that they would need additional funding in order to get the company off the ground, so they brought on as CFO Ms. Anna Cole, who had never been a CFO before, but who had worked for Apple in the early-80s and had stock options.

Beanpole's first product was Beanpole Author (BPA), a simple WYSIWYG HTML editor for the World Wide Web, introduced in mid-1994 to uproarious sucess. Later introduced was Beanpole Author Pro (BAP), which, in conjunction with Beanpole Server (BPS), allows the author to add new features to the Author program on the fly, load, edit and save files from the server, and interactively extend the abilities of the BAP framework to include services such as spell checking, HTML validation, filters from other popular formats and A fourth product, Beanpole Networks, is a networking layer that allows the Beanpole clients to operate on a simple dialup connection -- no TCP/IP stacks or arcane numbering schemes required.

Since its inception, Beanpole Software has more than doubled in size (we now have ten full-time staff) and with additional capital from the prestigious venture capital firm of Antipathy, Nachtmusik and Lint we believe we can provide networking and communications applications to a wide variety of internet market sectors.
